  • Designing and making a wooden puzzle and case
  • Basic use and understanding of tools and equipment, including pillar drills, coping saws, fret saws, various hand tools and finishing techniques

Home Learning this Term

To support the learning within this subject, pupils will

    • collect a picture of a wooden object.
    • Label it with the good / bad properties of wood e.g. wood is good to make this object from because it is strong, easy to cut/drill/carve.
    • Market Research – develop analytical skills of existing products 
    • Research into environmental factors
    • Glossary – produce an illustrated glossary for machinery and equipment, explaining and describing the safety aspects
    • Create an illustrated safety poster for the workshop, Improve and develop tonal rendering skills

  • Learn how to use a sewing machine safely
  • Basic sewing skills- Straight stitch and zigzag.
  • To be able to evaluate existing products in detail and identify strengths and areas for improvement
  • Develop skills with applique and analyse its effectiveness
  • Design and improve and ideas using self, peer and teacher feedback

    • Research in to a range of different hats and carry out a market research activity.

    • Complete design activities and identify embellishment and decoration techniques to use on fabrics.

    • Understand and identify Health and safety aspects in textiles

    • Evaluate in detail their sewing skills, and complete detailed analysis of their final outcome.

    • Identify catering career opportunities and the educational journey required for the employment in this sector.
    • Evaluate in detail their cooking skill, development and improvements with detailed analysis of outcomes.

 

 

Year 7 Design and Technology Summary

During year 7 pupils will develop skills in research, designing, making and evaluating across all four subject areas. All pupils will produce physical outcomes and develop a greater understanding of initial health and safety procedures in workshops and the kitchen. They will improve skills when using a range of new materials, equipment, processes and tools.
