In the first term of year 8 pupils will build on their previous knowledge and abilities in all four skill areas: listening, speaking, reading and writing. They will improve their vocabulary of this topic area and begin to produce more complex and detailed work. The more able pupils will also be introduced to the future tense(s) for the first time as well as covering the grammar points listed below. This topic will also go into the Spring Term.

Our main focus for homework is vocabulary learning for the current topic. Other tasks such as reading comprehensions or written paragraphs/redrafting writings as suited to the ability of the class will also be set. Homework will also include revising for any assessments in the term.

In the final term of year 8 pupils will complete their topic based work and revise key aspects of year 7 and 8 in preparation for end of year topics. They will be introduced to all key present tense verbs patterns and revise key tenses. They will build on their skills in listening, speaking, reading and writing in different contexts.

Homework will also include revising for end of year assessments.
In Year 8 pupils build on the skills learned in Year 7 and are able to tackle a wider range of vocabulary. More able learners will be able to communicate in different tenses and time phrases as well as produce written work of more extended length. Pupils will be able to access more complex texts and will begin to develop key skills required at GCSE and beyond.
