In year 9, pupils essentially start their GCSE course with key topics being covered this year and then revisited in KS4. Pupils will be introduced to the perfect tense and therefore be able to communicate in 3 time frames. They will build on their skills in all four skill areas: listening, speaking, reading and writing and be able to use a wider range of vocabulary. They will also cover the grammar points listed below.

Home Learning this Term

Our main focus for homework is vocabulary learning for the current topic. Pupils will begin building up their GCSE vocab book with sheets provided in class. Other tasks such as reading comprehensions or written paragraphs/redrafting writings as suited to the ability of the class will also be set. Homework will also include revising for any assessments in the term.

In the summer term pupils will complete further topic based work, developing their competencies in the four skill areas. Pupils will also revisit key aspects of KS3 in preparation for the end of year assessments which will take the form of a GCSE past paper for the higher sets. Pupils will also cover the grammar points listed below:

  • Present tense verbs (key irregulars & ER, IR, RE verb patterns)

Year 9 french Summary

In Year 9, the more and most able pupils will begin work on GCSE level work, tackling more difficult tenses, grammatical structures and vocabulary. All pupils will focus on key topics which feature on the GCSE specification, with some focus on careers and jobs. Pupils will have the chance to tackle GCSE level questions and will begin to communicate more fluently in speech and writing. They will revise and build upon key vocabulary across a range of topics. Pupils on the eBacc pathway will continue to a GCSE MFL, pupils on the Progress 8 pathway will choose if they wish to continue with MFL.
