Please note: school closes on Friday 20th December at 12.45pm for the Xmas holiday and re-opens on Monday 6th January normal time, 8.40am.

Fitness

Fitness – methods of training – cardiovascular – interval, fartlek, continuous, components of fitness and how to train for them e.g. muscular endurance and strength, skill specific fitness training e.g. netball circuit, football circuit

Netball

Netball – passing, footwork and moving into space under full pressure, understanding of all 7 roles on the court, centre pass strategies, back line, side line and on court set play strategies

Basketball

Basketball – different attacking strategies, half court, zonal and man to man defence, when to use each shooting style, 3 man weave, game play

SMSC: Spiritual experiences, Moral e.g. playing by the rules of the game, Social includes working and socialising with pupils from different religious, ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds, Cultural is shown by pupils willingness to participate in different sporting opportunities from different countries therefore learning about them and where they came from.  

British Values: Democracy – all students participate in all lessons equally – no barriers to participation, Rule of Law - Classroom expectations and sanctions are followed by each member of staff. Rules of games are also abided by when playing, Individual Liberty – extra-curricular opportunities are offered for all, Mutual Respect – part of our school ethos and behaviour policy and also these values are reinforced through sport, Tolerance to those with different faiths/beliefs – opportunities within school to experience diversity – through working with different peers and also experiencing sports from different cultures.

To support the learning within the subject, pupils can choose to attend extra-curricular clubs for these activities at lunchtimes and after school. Timetables can be found around the PE department in changing rooms, form tutors have a copy for their tutor room boards and it is also on the school website/social media. This could then lead to advancing skills further in these activities and the possibly being selected to play for the school team.

Badminton – recap all shots, drive shot, backhand shots, tactical plays – coming back to centre, forwards and backwards, side to side, singles and doubles tactical play

Invasion: Rugby & Football – Girls

Rugby & Football – Invasion Games:

Rugby – passing and use of space – bigger scenarios, tackling and rucking, line outs, scrum developments, tactical attack and defence game play

Football – passing, dribbling, control and turning in full game scenario, variety of shooting techniques, attacking and defensive plays, set plays

Handball - Mixed Handball – introduction of all different types of passes, dribbling, 3 steps, shooting, basic defensive and attacking plays, fundamental rules

Athletics – running styles - 100, 200, 400m – sprinting technique, pacing for longer distance e.g. 800m, long jump, shot putt, high jump, javelin, relay, triple jump – further development of techniques

2nd lesson per week:

Rounders 4 weeks

Cricket – fielding set plays, batting – cut and defensive shots, bowling – spin and pace,  wicket keeping, game scenarios and strategies

Cricket 4 weeks

Rounders – bowling development, fielding positional drills, batting development, fielding tactics and strategies – set plays e.g. bowler backstop first etc, tactical play

Softball 4 weeks
Softball - introduction to bowling – development from other similar sports, batting, fielding positions, understanding of game play – rules, basic tactical understanding

Year 9 pe Summary

During year 9 students will learn the basic skills of new sports such as Handball and further embed skills from previous years in sports they have already attempted. They will experience full sided games and the tactical and strategical decision making skills will be further explored to advance understanding of each sport and their effectiveness in game scenarios. Full rules will be played for the sport.
