COVID Update

Following on from rising covid rates in Leicestershire, the Local Authority has asked that face masks be reintroduced in all secondary schools for students and staff in communal areas. This is a sensible way to help keep students, staff and our wider community safe from covid this winter. 

Therefore, from Monday, we are requesting that all students (except those with a medical exemption) wear a face mask travelling on school transport, in corridors and when queueing indoors for food. 

Thank you in advance for your cooperation in keeping our local communities healthy and safe.

Year 11 Chemistry Summary

Term 1 – Topics C2, C3. Students learn about ionic and covalent bonding and the properties of differently bonded materials. They go on to learn how to perform some basic calculations in quantitative chemistry such as formula mass, percentage composition and moles in reactions.

Term 2 – Topic C5, C6. Students learn about energy transformations in reactions and the factors affecting the rate of chemical reactions which ties back to earlier learning about the particle model (collision theory).

Term 3 – Content teaching will be complete on or before the Easter holiday shut down and students will be concentrating on revision, mock exams and actual exams.

Required Practicals – Students do a further three required practicals in Year 11. They are completed over a sequence of five lessons where students plan and carry out a scientific investigation and then analyse and evaluate their results. Questions about these investigations may appear on their GCSE exam paper.
