5 hours per subject

Biology
Biological molecules, cells, organisms exchange substances with their environment, genetic information, variation and relationships between organisms, energy transfers in and between organisms, organisms respond to changes in their internal and external environments, genetics, populations, evolution and ecosystems, the control of gene expression.
Practical Endorsement: Over the two-year course, you will carry out a number of required experiments (known as ‘CPACS’) which will give you the opportunity to demonstrate a number of practical skills.

Chemistry

Physical chemistry: atomic structure, bonding, energetics, equilibria, rates, acids and bases and kinetic theory. Inorganic chemistry: periodicity, patterns and trends. Organic chemistry: carbon-based chemistry including oils, chemical reaction, aromatic chemistry, chromatography and organic synthesis.
Practical Endorsement: Over the two-year course, you will carry out a number of required experiments (known as ‘CPACS’) which will give you the opportunity to demonstrate a number of practical skills.

Physics

Forces and motion, electrons, waves and photons, newtonian world and astrophysics, particles and medical physics
Practical Endorsement: Over the two-year course, you will carry out a number of required experiments (known as ‘PAGs’) which will give you the opportunity to demonstrate a number of practical skills.

Each subject specialism will have a mid-year exam and a full paper exam at the end of each year. In year 2 multiple mock examinations may take place prior to final summer exams.
