Cedars Teacher visits Downing Street

In early November, Kishan Gadhia, Maths teacher at The Cedars Academy, attended a fantastic reception at 10 Downing Street, home of the UK Prime Minister.

Selected at random, Kishan received an email with his invitation on 11th October and, at first, he couldn’t quite believe it.

“I initially thought it seemed too good to be true,” he explained, “but I believed there could be a chance, so remained positive.

“I am not sure how I was selected but I was very grateful for the opportunity.”

Travelling down to London by train, Kishan arrived in the capital in the early afternoon and took a scenic walk from Leicester Square to Downing Street, where he queued outside the famous black door – emblazoned with the iconic ‘No.10’ – alongside other celebrated colleagues from the world of education.

After posing for a commemorative photo outside, Kishan made his way into No.10 and enjoyed meeting the Prime Minister, Sir Keir Starmer, and Bridget Phillipson, the Secretary of State for Education; he also had fun networking with other teachers and teaching assistants, who, like him, were being recognised for the sterling work they do.

As part of the reception, the Prime Minister delivered a brilliant speech, outlining his appreciation for the magnificent job those in attendance do, going above and beyond to inspire the next generation.

“It really made us feel recognised, rewarded, and welcomed,” Kishan said.

And, what about the day as a whole?

“It was a great opportunity to share my passion for teaching and be recognised for the contribution that teachers make to our society,” Kishan concluded.

A once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Well done, Kishan!
