The Cedars Academy Curriculum Model Years 7 and 8

The Cedars curriculum in Y7 and Y8 is broad and balanced with proportionate time allocation for Ebacc subjects. Curriculum plans across Ebacc subjects are based on the Lionheart Trust centralised curriculum plans with integrated assessment opportunities to aid pupils and teaching staff identify any gaps in knowledge and plan remedial work to address these gaps. Year 9

Students in Year 9 take one subject at level 2 qualification which they then sit at the end of year 10.  The benefits of this include:

  • Introduction to study of level 2 qualifications
  • Reduce stress in year 11 and promotes wellbeing
  • Released curriculum time in year 11 to be used for bespoke intervention/ enrichment (links to cultural capital)
  • Increased confidence

 

The qualifications offered for study in years 9 and 10 have been carefully selected to provide a range of subjects and differing types of qualifications to ensure that all students can access and enjoy their learning.  The options offered are: BTEC Performing Arts, GCSE Product Design, CNAT Health and Social Care, GCSE Fine Art, CNAT Sports and Fitness, BTEC Construction, GCSE Statistics for years 8/9, CNAT iMedia, GCSE Food and Nutrition, GCSE Computer Science and GCSE Music

 Students in year 8 choose this option subject in consultation with parents and their tutor.
