Studying Geography at KS4

Year 10 have 5 one-hour lessons of Geography over a 2-week period and Year 11 have 3 one-hour lessons of Geography per week. Students study all Human Geography units in one year, and all Physical Geography units in the other. Units are:

  • Global Hazards
  • Changing Climate
  • Distinctive Landscapes
  • Sustaining Ecosystems
  • Urban Futures
  • Dynamic Development
  • UK in the 21st Century
  • Resource Reliance

In addition, students undertake a piece of fieldwork in each year – one human and one physical. Students are set homework on a weekly basis consisting of retrieval quizzes, online Seneca work and extracts from revision booklet.

Career Pathways in Geography
There is no such thing as a Geography job – but a huge number of jobs that Geographers do! And Geography graduates are some of the most employable graduates after University (RGS, 2022). Geography at the Cedars will equip students with a number of transferrable skills that will be relevant in a variety of jobs and industries. By studying Geography, you could become a: Conservation Officer, GIS Consultant, Town Planner, International Aid Worker, Meteorologist, Teacher or be successful in many other careers. Furthermore, Geography allows you to study topical issues, such as Climate Change, which will only be more important to careers in the future.
