Students take Part in Exciting Premier League Event

Two Year 8 students from The Cedars Academy were recently selected to represent Leicester City in a Premier League event.

As explained previously, Nicole and Ruby planned and designed a sustainability project in conjunction with Premier League Inspires and Leicester City in the Community, the charity component of the football club.

Their project focused on creating a clean, comforting and environmentally friendly garden area to be situated at The Academy.

The proposed area will also act as a home for wildlife; specifically bugs and birds. It is hoped that housing for these animals – as well as garden benches and other outdoor furniture - can be constructed in woodwork lessons.

Additionally, the students have been gifted solar-powered lights – to brighten up the area on winter evenings – and other items such as tyres, plant pots and pebbles.

As part of their plan, the girls highlighted the positive impact this project could have on student mental health; noting that many children could benefit from having an area they can escape to whenever they are feeling overwhelmed.

The girls were then selected as Leicester City in the Community’s representatives and, alongside winners from other Premier League clubs, travelled to Villa Park, home of Aston Villa, and presented their project.

After a phenomenal amount of hard work, it was fantastic to see the girls receive the acclaim they deserved.

Well done!
